Currently Craving: White and Black

Well saying this week was busy is an understatement. Between working late most nights and running around to finish my office it was quite the busy week. Luckily for us Canadians, this weekend is our long weekend! I am so excited to spend this weekend relaxing and doing the things I love most. Tonight the boyfriend and I are heading to dinner to celebrate some recent awesomeness, then I will be heading up to a friends cottage for a girls night (seriously can't wait), and then hopefully spending the rest of the weekend relaxing outside and watching fireworks! I hope you all have a few fun things planned for your weekend and can squeeze in some down time as well!

Until my weekend officially starts I wanted to share this weeks cravings. I think because of my recent office redo, I have been especially attracted to office furniture. I had been looking for a new desk when I decided to change things up in my current office and found some truly great pieces. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get any of these great (or expensive, man furniture is not cheap!) desks for now, but thought I'd still share the ones that will be mine soon enough! Firstly, I love white. I am obsessed with white furniture and especially love an all white office. So when looking for the perfect desk I was immediately drawn to these white ones. Next I love when a desk can provide a bit of storage without being too bulky. I think a simple desk drawer can work wonders. And lastly I love a desk that looks great. I love a nice structure to a desk, one that has some style to its legs so it doesn't look just like a table sitting there. These three below all encompass what I deem the perfect office desk.

Speaking of perfect, for a while now I have been searching for the perfect pair of black jeans. I had a pair but after a few washes they started to fade in to a not so nice colour. I'm starting to think that this might need to be a splurge purchase and I should invest in a really good pair. I really love to wear black jeans, I think they can dress an outfit up and they are so versatile since you can pair them with anything. I have a few options in the back of my head and I think I might make this the weekend that I go out and get them. I am going back and forth on a few different styles, but hopefully I can settle on one (or two...) by the end of the weekend.

1. Gap 1969 Jeans
2. J Brand
3. IRO Jeans

Happy (long) weekend everyone!

New Office: Art Work

I hope you all had a great and hopefully relaxing weekend! I turned my relaxing weekend in to a chaotic busy one when I decided my office needed to be all redone! Not all of us around here were as excited as me to make the three trips to ikea, but needless to say it is all starting to come together! I will definitely have a big reveal soon, but until then there are still a few decisions to make and spaces to fill. My walls are still very bare, and I have been going back and forth on how to fill them. Over the past little while I have been gathering and saving art work and prints that I had hoped to purchase one day when I had the space for them. Since now I do, I thought I'd share which ones I hope to hang on my walls. Prints are such a great way to fill wall space since they are very affordable, but also look great and can provide some extra needed colour or pops of fun. I have never really bought any prints or art work and so I am excited to finally have something that I can keep forever and that will provide me with endless inspiration! I am all about having great pieces in your workspace to keep you going throughout the day. I think those little things whether it is prints, photographs or small keepsakes, can really keep you inspired while you work. Anyways here are the 5 prints that will soon grace the walls of my almost done office!

Currently Craving: Board Games and Hats

Yay it's Friday! We made it! I am so glad that it's the end of the week and I am really looking forward to a relaxing weekend. To kick off this weekend we are having a few friends over for some wine/beer, snacks and a board game. I love a good board game (seriously who doesn't), but I am a little underwhelmed with my current selection. I have a few good ones but I am hoping to go pick up a new one or two before Friday night. It will be a tough decision to make since there are SO many good ones out there. I've made a list of what board games I've narrowed it down to, and one of these will definitely be coming home with me!

Since today is the first day of summer (finally!), I also hope to spend a good chunk of the weekend outside. Hopefully we will go check out a new ice cream shop and maybe take a few nice bike rides. One things for sure, I am most definitely going to park myself on my lawn chair and catch up on my reading. There is nothing better than a good book, sunshine and perhaps some sangria! To keep cool I have been searching for the perfect summer hat. Right now I'm torn between a structured fedora or a wider brimmed straw hat. I think I might have to buy one of each! Here are some styles I've found this week that would be perfect for lounging                 around outside.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Recipe: Wonton Crunch

Happy Hump Day Everyone! Boy I am sure looking forward to this weekend! Since this past weekend was very busy and the start to the week has not slowed down, I am looking forward to having nothing scheduled for this upcoming weekend. Now it just needs to get here and be Friday already! Until then I thought I would share a recent discovery of mine (my boss introduced me to it actually!). This amazing discovery is Wonton Wrappers. Yes you heard it, the crispy wrapping that makes up a traditional Wonton can actually do many more things. You can buy Wonton Wrappers in your grocery store (I found them located by the pre-made salads or in the Asian vegetable area) and you can make them in to amazing chips/crackers. Once they are made they are seriously the crunchiest things you will ever have! They will fill that crunch craving better than anything else! I prepared mine two different ways, but really the options are endless! So here we go!

Salt, Pepper and Parmesan Wonton Chips

You will need:

  • Wonton Wrappers
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt and Pepper (coarse salt works better)
  • Parmesan Cheese and a small grater
  • Baking Sheet
  • Pizza Cutter (or knife)
  • Brush (for olive oil)
To begin set your oven to 350°C and grab a baking sheet. Open the Wonton Wrapper package and begin to peel each individual wrapper (keep peeling because they are very thin). Lay out as many wrappers as your baking sheet can fit without over lapping. Use a knife or pizza cutter and slice each one in half (diagonally works best). Then grab a brush and dip it in olive oil and coat the side facing up with oil. The wrapper doesn't need to be completely covered in oil, just a light dusting will do! Then sprinkle salt (a generous amount), pepper and grate parmesan cheese right over each wrapper. Next flip each wrapper over and repeat those same steps (dust with oil, salt, pepper and parmesan). Then place the wrappers in your oven for 10 minutes, checking them every so often. Once the wrappers are a medium to dark brown colour they are good to go! Let them cool and enjoy! They can be eaten all on their own, or used as chips with some dip!

Cinnamon Brown Sugar Wonton Crisps

You will need:

  • Wonton Wrappers
  • Butter (melted)
  • Cinnamon
  • Brown Sugar
  • White Sugar
  • Baking Sheet
  • Pizza Cutter (or knife)
  • Brush (for butter)
Again set your oven to 350°C and grab a baking sheet. Open the Wonton Wrappers and start peeling each one and placing them on your baking sheet. Cut each one in half diagonally. Melt some butter (the amount depends on how many you make) and brush it on to the wrappers (similar to the olive oil). Again the wrappers don't need to be covered in butter just a light brushing. Then in a bowl mix cinnamon, brown sugar and white sugar together. Again depending on how many you make will change the amount of ingredients needed. Try to stick to your mixture being 1/2 Brown Sugar, 1/4 Cinnamon and 1/4 White Sugar. Once each wrapper is dusted with butter, sprinkle your sugar and cinnamon mixture over each wrapper. Then flip the wrappers over and repeat those same steps (butter, sprinkle with sugar/cinnamon). Place them in the oven for 10 minutes. Once they are a medium to dark brown colour they are ready. These are a great snack all by themselves to fill that crunch craving and that sweet craving!

Some things to keep in mind

- The time given of 10 minutes is very accurate, I have made a few batches and leave them in the oven with the timer set to 10 minutes. Each time they come out perfect at the 10 minute mark.

- Once in the oven the wrappers do not need to be flipped.
- Try not to use a lot of butter on the Cinnamon Brown Sugar ones as I find they can get a little greasy afterwards!

Hopefully you can make these sometime soon and enjoy them either with dip or all on their own! Be careful though, they are very addicting! Here's to getting through Wednesday and the rest of the week!

Currently Craving: Dresses and Picnics

So I've decided to make my Currently Cravings posts into a weekly series! I think this is a great way to create a schedule for the blog and some accountability for me! Hopefully you are as excited as I am and will enjoy my roundup each Friday of my favourite things from that week. So here we go! This week I have been obsessed with all things summer. Maybe it's because the weather here is all over the place (it's so cold today) but I have been craving for a perfect day spent outside in the sun. I can't wait for those summer days when I can throw on a simple maxi dress and head out to brunch or the market. I have been searching everywhere for the perfect everyday maxi dress. I have come across a few that fit the bill and the three below are easy and simple. They also all come in at the waist which I think is a more flattering fit (instead of empire waist) for a maxi dress. Maxi dresses are such a versatile summer staple, since you can really wear them anywhere. They are comfortable enough to wear all day long, which means they would be ideal for my long awaited picnic! I was lucky enough to receive a picnic basket and blanket for my birthday and ever since then I have been dying to test them out. Picnic's are such a great way to spend hours outside in the summer, especially if a beach isn't near by (sadly that is true for me).  So for an ideal afternoon spent outside eating, reading and enjoying the sun I thought I'd share my picnic essentials.

Addicted to Stationery

If you know me or have been in my home you will probably already know that I have a slight (more like major) addiction to stationery. From notebooks to cards to stickers, I love all things stationery. I am that one person who goes in to a store like Anthropologie and will come out with 5 different notebooks and cards instead of some great clothes! I have been keeping my eye on a few notebooks and other items from around the web these past few days and so I thought I'd let you in on what I've been lusting after. Here are a few stationery items I hope to make my own. Enjoy!

One Skirt, Three Ways

More recently when I’ve been shopping I always look at pieces that interest me and think about the different ways I could wear them. Clearly a skirt can only be worn as a skirt… but I think about different ways I can style the item and if it can carry me through brunch to dinner. Not every piece has to measure up to this big task, but I think it is always a good idea when trying an item on to think of all the ways you might be able to wear it. I think by getting versatility out of a piece makes it that much easier to buy (no regrets or doubts!) or allows you to justify that hefty price tag (at least in my mind and to the boyfriend..). So here is one piece that I feel I can style in so many different ways. It really is such a versatile piece and on many occasions I have worn it all the way from a morning breakfast to a late dinner. Here is my H&M Polka Dot Grey Skirt styled three ways- DAY, NIGHT, WORK.

Look #1- DAY: The day look is an easy summer outfit to throw on and go. I paired my H&M skirt with a striped Joe Fresh T-shirt, a Summer hat for those hot days, a braided belt, a thrifted colourful purse to add some fun, and my Old Navy Cross-Strap Sandals.

Look #2- NIGHT: The night look is a more fun put together look that can suit really any situation. Whether its drinks and appetizers, or a late night cocktail, this is the perfect transitional outfit. I paired my H&M skirt with an Old Navy Chambray Shirt (now on sale!), added a pop of colour with a fun necklace and purse, and finished it off with my Target Gold Glitter Sandals.

Look #3- OFFICE: Finally the work look is a great way to add some fun to your day to day outfits. I think a work look should definitely show your personal style while still maintaining a sense of class and appropriateness. I think this work look is a perfect combination of fun and professional. Here I paired my H&M skirt with a tailored white Joe Fresh Blouse, a colourful necklace, a side satchel large enough to carry your things for the day, and my Steve Madden Flats (now on sale!).

Happy Monday Everyone!
